Here we see a motor driving a transmission. There were no complaints from the client. Routine predictive maintenance was offered while the machine was in operation.
Elevated shaft temperatures at the front bearing journal were detected and flagged using Infrared Thermal Imaging.
Upon removal of safety guard, additional heating was noted also coming from the bearing journal.
Subsequent removal of safety guard revealed damaged pulley shaft on motor end as well as a broken flange on lower transmission. Followup inspection of disassembled motor revealed worn shaft and keyway resulting in loose fitting pulley. Motor bearings were close to failure. Grease was burnt.
This problem was flagged and proactively pursued before failure and with minimal downtime !!!
